for everyone
Start:     Apr 5, '08
End:     Apr 7, '08
Dear Friends,

We are inviting you to participate in SITMo's Tagtag ad Asipulo Tour on April 5-7, 2008. Tagtag is a traditional ritual to protect the rice crop from rats and other pests. It is also a ritual to drive away evils and bad omens from Ifugao communities.

Please support this tour as it helps the Ifugao rice terraces by bringing tourists to share the tourism income with the community. Part of the proceeds of the tour goes directly to the community to help them promote their indigenous culture and preserve the rice terraces.

The Tagtag ad Asipulo Tour will give the tourists the opportunity to see an important aspect of the Ifugao culture that has nurtured the Ifugao rice terraces for thousands of years. It will be held in Amduntog Village in Asipulo, a laidback and beautiful town in Ifugao.

This year's Tagtag Tour also features Liyah, a conferment ritual of mumbaki, a high priest of Ifugao. It will be held on the night of April 6 'til the morning of April 7, in Hapao Village in Hungduan, one of the heritage towns of Ifugao.

The Hapao rice terraces will be at its finest during this time of the year. Visit to the famous Banaue rice terraces is also included in the itinerary.

Thank you very much.

Very truly yours,

TEDDY B. BAGUILAT, JR.
Governor, Ifugao Province
Honorary Chairman, Save the Ifugao Terraces Movement (SITMo)

TAGTAG AD ASIPULO
April 5-7, 2008

Tagtag is a traditional ritual to protect the rice crop from rats and other pests, and to drive away evils and bad omens from the community.

It involves a great number of Ifugao men clad in traditional Ifugao attire marching along the rice terraces while beating wood planks in rhythm.

Another highlight of the tour is the cultural night showcasing Ifugao traditional performing arts – dances, chants, songs and ethnic instrument playing.

This year's Tagtag Tour also features Liyah, a conferment ritual of mumbaki, a high priest of Ifugao. It will be held in Hapao Village in Hungduan, one of the heritage towns of Ifugao.

The Hapao rice terraces will be at its finest during this time of the year. Visit to the famous Banaue rice terraces is also included in the itinerary.
